About the Plant
Hydrangea paniculata 'Little Lime Punch' is an award-winning, compact, and spectacularly colourful ornamental shrub celebrated for its continuously changing flower colours. A single bush can display all its colour stages simultaneously — making it one of the most eye-catching plants you can grow!
Flowers
- Large, conical flower heads that transform through the season
- Opens lime green and creamy white in early summer
- Transitions to white, then soft pink, and finally deep “Hawaiian Punch” red by autumn
- Reblooming – multiple colour stages visible at once on the same plant
Growth Habit
- Compact, upright shrub
- Height and spread: 70–120 cm (occasionally up to 150 cm)
- Strong, rigid stems that hold heavy flower heads upright even in wind and rain
Care Instructions
- Light: Full sun to part shade. Autumn red colouring is more intense in full sun.
- Soil: Fertile, evenly moist, and well-draining. Prefers slightly acidic soil, but unlike large-leaved hydrangeas, soil pH does not affect flower colour (colour change is genetic).
- Pruning: Hard prune every spring before buds break – flowers on new wood, so cutting back encourages strong new growth and larger flower heads.
Winter Hardiness
❄️ Extremely hardy – tolerates frost down to -30°C or even -40°C. Perfectly suited to the Estonian climate with no winter protection needed.
